Last weekend I took a trip up to the Lake District for a couple of days of hiking and relaxation. It came up in coversation that my sister had never been, so I felt like that was as good a reason as any to jump on the motorway on friday evening and get up there in search of epic scenery and a bit of ‘getting away from it all’, whatever ‘it all’ even is.
Things were off to a bad start when I jumped in the car to find a totally flat tyre, and lost an hour to getting that sorted. For the Bristolians, Protyre in Lawrence hill are great and I will be using them again. Luckily we had clear roads all the way up to Kendal and arrived at our little airbnb in time for a cup of tea and an hours chill time before bed.

Saturday was super misty. I had considered walking on lower ground, but sometimes you can hike up out of the mist and get a good veiw from higher up. This wasn’t the case, and I couldnt help but feel a little dissapointed for Helen that we’d gotten up to the top of Consiton Old Man to see a few meters in front of our faces. Not long after however we were blessed with some increidble moments where the sun would peirce through and the fog would clear for a few seconds, giving glimpses of the neighbouring hills, and offering up some crazy tricks of perspective, where lakes in the valley would appear to be floating within the fog. Very trippy!

Sunday was a different kettle of fish all together, we awoke to one of those clear hazy mornings that tell you its going to be a beautiful day as soon as the sun has risen further. I’d planned a loop from Great Langdale up and around Loft Crag towards High Raise, which is the geographical centre of the Lakes. The veiws from here are stunning and my pictures do them no justsice, and I was really happy that Helen had gotten to see them after the previous days fogfest. She said she could see why poets and writers had based themselves there, but the most poetic words she could muster were ‘fucking hell’.
All in all a top weekend, and a reminder that you don’t actually need more than two days off to have a great time in a beautiful place.
