Cape Wrath Trail update #2

Day #4 Continued:

After taking on board the cafe staff advice we climbed up into the mountains again in blazing hot sunshine, and found a sweet camp spot by the river Allt à Choire Heidh, near a small stalkers hut.

This is the most perfect camp spot, perfectly flat, right beside the river, and with a good enough breeze to keep the midges away.

We’ve washed all of our clothes, had a dip on the river and thoroughly relaxed this evening to really make up for a few days arriving at camp very late.

Tomorrow we aim for Morvich, spirits couldn’t be higher. Only 178 miles to go!

Day #5 – Allt à Choire Heidh to Glomach

I slept pretty well last night, whilst also peeking out at the stars from time to time. The tent I’m using is a little Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo, which lets me roll the doors right back and see out really well from bed. This is great up here away from light pollution where the skies are just incredible.

We got going at 6 a.m. today to beat the heat. (Not something I thought I’d be saying in Scotland!) Before heading over a steep pathless bealach and down towards Morvich. We made way better time than expected and are currently sa outtside a great little alladins cave of a shop called Kintail Crafts. They kindly took our resupply parcel and we’ll now be carrying 7 days of food to get us to Inchnadamph.

We’ve covered over 70 miles of tough terrain so far and still not a blister between us. This is great news.

Tonight we an to camp up above the Falls of Glomach, the highest waterfall in the UK. But first, to finish this load of cheese and snacks I’ve bought in the shop. A couple days in the wilderness definitely makes you want to eat all the good stuff!
